RAF, RAAF & RDAF C-130J Mode 5 IFF & ADS-B Upgrade
VuDu Engineering played a pivotal role in a £27 million collaborative project involving the Royal Air Force (RAF), the Royal Danish Air Force (RDAF) and the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).
To enable the different stakeholders to install Mode 5 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) and Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B Out) across their fleet of C130J aircraft, we led and managed a multi-disciplinary team ensuring project milestones were achieved and, in many cases, exceeded.
Specific activities carried out by VuDu Engineering included:
Developing and agreeing the Statement of Requirements.
Assuring airworthiness through certification activity (Def Stan 00-970/Mil HdBk 516C).
Establishing and agreeing Type Certification Basis (TCB) with the regulator for major modifications.
Assessment of evidence (DO-178B/DO-254/DO-160) and utilisation of evidence for certification.
Issue management of non-conformances with appropriate risk management and control measures.
Implementing of regulatory recommendations with a full audit trail to support quality processes and procedures.
Working with collaborating nations (Australia and Denmark) on schedules and delivery performance of equipment / underpinning documentation.
Promoting the modifications through configuration control boards.
Managing the release to service recommendations for inclusion of the modifications within the military register.
“FOMS (ADS-B Out and IFF Mode 5) was a tri-national, UK-led modification programme required to meet a hard-regulatory backstop. If the programme was not delivered, it would have restricted the freedom of operation of the aircraft of the nations involved and its successful completion was identified as a UK strategic milestone.
Thanks to VuDu’s exceptional leadership, the programme was delivered ahead of the target date and resulted in VuDu being awarded a DE&S CEO’s Commendation. I would be delighted to work with VuDu again in the future and the company comes with my highest endorsement.”
